44 people sick nationwide. 7 alfalfa sprout products (125g) are affected. Products were sold at Woolworths and Coles and at independent grocers including IGA, Harris Farm, Sydney Markets, and Melbourne Markets nationwide.
Who's At Risk?
Salmonella mainly impacts young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Most healthy adults and children rarely become seriously ill after exposure to Salmonella.
Symptoms
Symptoms may include fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (which may be bloody), and abdominal pain. Illness usually occurs within 12 to 72 hours after eating contaminated food. In rare cases, the organism can get into the bloodstream resulting in severe illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis.
