Salmonella Outbreak
Severity
62 people sick & 10 hospitalized across 4 provinces as part of a Salmonella outbreak to date. Affected product, Habibi brand Pistachio Kernel, is packaged in 10 kg units and marked Best By JAN 2027. This recall has been expanded to include an additional province. Products were sold in 3 provinces. Do not consume, use, sell, serve, or distribute recalled pistachios and pistachio-containing products. Investigation is ongoing.
Who's At Risk?
Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
Symptoms
Symptoms may include fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (which may be bloody), and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the organism can get into the bloodstream and producing more severe illness such as arterial infections (i.e. infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
