Who's At Risk?
Individuals with gallbladder disease, bleeding disorders, or gastrointestinal conditions may be more susceptible to adverse effects from high intake. People taking anticoagulant, antiplatelet, or certain diabetes medications, as well as pregnant women and individuals using high-dose curcumin supplements, should exercise caution due to the potential for adverse effects or drug interactions.
Symptoms
Symptoms may include nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, bloating, indigestion, and headache following excessive intake of curcumin. High doses may also increase the risk of bleeding, especially in people taking anticoagulant or antiplatelet medications, and may worsen gallbladder disorders in susceptible individuals. Prolonged excessive intake may increase the risk of gastrointestinal irritation and other adverse health effects.
