59 (2 new) people reported sick & 10 (1 new) dead across 19 (1 new) states to date. 70+ deli products totaling 7 million pounds recalled nationwide. Some of the products have sell by dates into October 2024. Listeria is a hardy germ that can remain on surfaces, like deli meat slicers, and foods, even at refrigerated temperatures. Do not eat recalled deli meats. Clean your refrigerator, containers and surfaces that may have touched recalled meats.
Who's At Risk?
Pregnant women, young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. This is because Listeria is more likely to spread beyond their gut to other parts of their body, resulting in a severe condition known as invasive listeriosis.
Symptoms
Listeria infection can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery, or life-threatening infection of the newborn in pregnant women. Healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. It can also take up to 10 weeks for some people to have symptoms.
