Who's At Risk?
Lead is toxic to humans and can affect people of any age or health status. If you suspect that you or your family has been exposed to elevated levels of lead, talk to your healthcare provider immediately.
Symptoms
Most people have no obvious immediate symptoms of lead exposure. However, long-term exposure (weeks to months) can seriously harm a child’s health and cause damage to the brain and nervous system, slowed growth and development, as well as learning, hearing, speech, and behavior problems. For adults, chronic lead exposure is associated with kidney dysfunction, hypertension, and neurocognitive effects.
