No illnesses have been reported yet. 1.7+ million pounds of whey and dairy products recalled. Affected products may also have been used as an ingredient in other products. Products are distributed and sold in 24 states and also in Canada, Ecuador and Japan.
Who's At Risk?
Salmonella mainly impacts young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Most healthy adults and children rarely become seriously ill after exposure to Salmonella.
Symptoms
Symptoms may include fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (which may be bloody), and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the organism can get into the bloodstream and producing more severe illness such as arterial infections (i.e. infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
