36 people sick and 4 hospitalized across 14 states to date. 2 brands were recalled. Products were sold at Trader Joe's in 30 states. FDA's investigation is now complete and the outbreak is over as of June 18, 2024.
Who's At Risk?
Salmonella mainly impacts young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Most healthy adults and children rarely become seriously ill after exposure to Salmonella.
Symptoms
Symptoms may include fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (which may be bloody), and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the organism can get into the bloodstream and producing more severe illness such as arterial infections (i.e. infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
