449 people sick & 125 hospitalized across 31 states to date. Tests found that the untreated canal water used by a grower in Florida is linked to the contamination. Products were distributed and sold in bulk cartons in 14 states from May 17 through May 21, 2024. Products may have also been re-packaged for retail stores and sold in additional states. Investigation ongoing.
Who's At Risk?
Salmonella mainly impacts young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Most healthy adults and children rarely become seriously ill after exposure to Salmonella.
Symptoms
Symptoms may include fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (which may be bloody), and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the organism can get into the bloodstream and producing more severe illness such as arterial infections (i.e. infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
