551 people sick & 155 hospitalized across 34 states to date. 2 growers in Florida are identified as sources of contamination however they do not account for all the reported illnesses. The cucumbers were sold in bulk cartons in 14 states from May 17 through May 21, 2024 which may also have been re-packaged for other retail stores and sold in additional states. There is no product on the market currently and likely no ongoing risk to the public.
Who's At Risk?
Salmonella mainly impacts young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Most healthy adults and children rarely become seriously ill after exposure to Salmonella.
Symptoms
Symptoms may include fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (which may be bloody), and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the organism can get into the bloodstream and producing more severe illness such as arterial infections (i.e. infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
