No illnesses have been reported yet. 224 cases of whole cantaloupes are recalled. Affected product is marked with lot #846468. Products were distributed and sold in Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, Texas, and Virginia at various retail supermarkets between August 13th - 17th.
Who's At Risk?
Salmonella mainly impacts young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Most healthy adults and children rarely become seriously ill after exposure to Salmonella.
Symptoms
Symptoms may include fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (which may be bloody), and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the organism can get into the bloodstream and producing more severe illness such as arterial infections (i.e. infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
