65 people sick & 24 hospitalized across 9 states to date. As of October 17, CDC has declared the outbreak over. At this time, all recalled eggs should be off the market and beyond shelf life. All carton cases and expiration dates from Milo’s Poultry Farms and Tony’s Fresh Market were impacted. Recalled products were distributed in Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, and possibly other states through retail stores, distributors and restaurants.
Who's At Risk?
Salmonella mainly impacts young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Most healthy adults and children rarely become seriously ill after exposure to Salmonella.
Symptoms
Symptoms may include fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (which may be bloody), and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the organism can get into the bloodstream and producing more severe illness such as arterial infections (i.e. infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
