113 people sick & 28 hospitalized across 23 states to date. Affected products were sold in bulk cardboard containers and also used in other products recalled by multiple companies. Products were sold from October 12 to November 26, 2024 in stores such as Walmart, Kroger, Sprouts, Sam's Club & others in US and Canada. Affected product is past shelf-life and is no longer sold in stores. CDC declares outbreak over.
Who's At Risk?
Salmonella mainly impacts young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Most healthy adults and children rarely become seriously ill after exposure to Salmonella.
Symptoms
Symptoms may include fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (which may be bloody), and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the organism can get into the bloodstream and producing more severe illness such as arterial infections (i.e. infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
