Symptoms
Patulin is a toxin produced by molds like Penicillium, Aspergillus, and Byssochylamys, which can grow on apples and other fruits. It is genotoxic, potentially damaging DNA, and can cause symptoms like nausea and vomiting. Long-term exposure may lead to immune system suppression, liver and kidney failure, or neurological damage, and is also linked to cancer risks.
