Listeria Outbreak
Severity
42 sick, 41 hospitalized & 14 people dead across 21 states to date. Outbreak declared over on May 16, 2025. All frozen supplemental shakes under brands Lyons ReadyCare and Sysco Imperial within shelf-life are affected. Products were distributed to foodservice customers, including hospitals and long-term care facilities nationwide. Affected product is no longer available on the market.
Who's At Risk?
Pregnant women, young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. This is because Listeria is more likely to spread beyond their gut to other parts of their body, resulting in a severe condition known as invasive listeriosis.
Symptoms
Listeria infection can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery, or life-threatening infection of the newborn in pregnant women. Healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. It can take up to 10 weeks for some people to have symptoms.
