26 people sick & 9 hospitalized across 15 states as part of a growing multistate Salmonella outbreak. 17 products containing cucumbers grown by Bedner Growers, Inc. — including salsas, salads, and prepared bowls packaged in plastic containers — are recalled out of caution. Affected products were sold in 12 states.
Who's At Risk?
Salmonella mainly impacts young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Most healthy adults and children rarely become seriously ill after exposure to Salmonella.
Symptoms
Symptoms may include fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (which may be bloody), and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the organism can get into the bloodstream and producing more severe illness such as arterial infections (i.e. infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
