Severity
4 people sick & 1 hospitalized across 2 states to date. Emek-brand Pistachio Cream is linked to a multistate Salmonella outbreak. Affected products are packaged in 5 kg white tubs. One lot code is affected (see images). Products were sold to wholesale distributors, restaurants, and food service locations nationwide. Do not eat, sell, or serve recalled products. Investigation ongoing.
Who's At Risk?
Salmonella mainly impacts young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Most healthy adults and children rarely become seriously ill after exposure to Salmonella.
Symptoms
Symptoms may include fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (which may be bloody), and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the organism can get into the bloodstream and producing more severe illness such as arterial infections (i.e. infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
