69 people sick & 22 hospitalized across 21 states to date. Cucumbers grown by Bedner Growers, Inc., and distributed by Fresh Start Produce Sales, Inc., to retailers, distribution centers, wholesalers, and food service distributors from April 29, 2025, to May 19, 2025. This led to several companies issuing recalls for cucumbers and products containing recalled cucumbers. Recalled products are past shelf-life and should no longer be available for sale in stores. Outbreak declared over.
Who's At Risk?
Salmonella mainly impacts young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Most healthy adults and children rarely become seriously ill after exposure to Salmonella.
Symptoms
Symptoms may include fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (which may be bloody), and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the organism can get into the bloodstream and producing more severe illness such as arterial infections (i.e. infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
