Severity
8 people sick, 7 hospitalized, and 1 death reported across 3 states from March 2023 through May 2026. This update includes Requeson Cheese (1 lb) repacked from outbreak-linked Clover Hill Dairy Requeson Cheese. Affected products were sold at retail locations in 1 state from May 15 to May 28, 2026. Do not eat, sell, or serve recalled product. Investigation is ongoing.
Who's At Risk?
Pregnant women, young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. This is because Listeria is more likely to spread beyond their gut to other parts of their body, resulting in invasive listeriosis.
Symptoms
Listeria infection can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery, or life-threatening infection of the newborn in pregnant women. Healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. It can take up to 10 weeks for some people to have symptoms.
