488 people sick and 65 hospitalized across 34 states to date. 150+ jalapeño and jalapeño-containing products (see the timeline) are linked to the outbreak. Affected products were sold through Albertsons, H-E-B, Hannaford, Kroger, Target, Walmart, and others. Some recalled products have longer shelf lives and may still be in consumers’ homes. Do not eat, sell, or serve recalled products. Outbreak declared over.
Who's At Risk?
Salmonella mainly impacts young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Most healthy adults and children rarely become seriously ill after exposure to Salmonella.
Symptoms
Symptoms may include fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (which may be bloody), and abdominal pain. Illness usually occurs within 12 to 72 hours after eating contaminated food. In rare cases, the organism can get into the bloodstream resulting in severe illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis.
