7 people, including 6 children under 1 year of age, reported sick across 7 states to date. 5 of the cases had exposure to dogs and 3 specifically reported feeding Victor pet food to their pets. Over 80 products were impacted with best by dates before 10/31/24. Products were sold nationwide.
Who's At Risk?
Salmonella can affect animals eating the products and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products.
Symptoms
Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever, and abdominal pain. Healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans.
