Update #2: Sofia Produce, LLC dba Trufresh Expands Recall to Include Additional Order Numbers of Fresh Cantaloupe Because of Possible Health Risk Due to Salmonella | Food Recalls & Alerts
117 people sick, 61 hospitalized and 2 dead across 34 states. This is an ongoing outbreak where a number of Cantaloupe products under different brands are recalled nationwide and in Canada. Recall expanded to include additional order numbers. Products were distributed and sold in Arizona, California, Maryland, New Jersey, Tennessee, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, Texas, Florida, and in Canada. Affected products may have reached consumers in other states too.
Who's At Risk?
Salmonella mainly impacts young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Most healthy adults and children rarely become seriously ill after exposure to Salmonella.
Symptoms
Symptoms may include fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (which may be bloody), and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the organism can get into the bloodstream and producing more severe illness such as arterial infections (i.e. infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
