Severity
89 people sick, 36 hospitalized & 1 dead across 15 states to date. Romaine lettuce was confirmed as the source however the exact products and distribution pattern weren't disclosed to the public. Affected products were likely sold nationwide but no longer available for sale today. FDA's investigation closed.
Who's At Risk?
Children under 5 years old, older adults and persons with weakened immune systems.
Symptoms
Symptoms include severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, fever, nausea, and/or vomiting. Some infections can cause severe bloody diarrhea and lead to life-threatening conditions, such as a type of kidney failure called hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), or the development of high blood pressure, chronic kidney disease, and neurologic problems.
