Severity
14 people sick in 1 state to date. Leaping Bear Farm eggs linked to the Salmonella outbreak. Other states have genetically linked cases. Affected eggs were sold at local farmers markets and other retail establishments across 1 state. Do not eat or compost the recalled eggs. Investigation is ongoing.
Who's At Risk?
Salmonella mainly impacts young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Most healthy adults and children rarely become seriously ill after exposure to Salmonella.
Symptoms
Symptoms may include fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (which may be bloody), and abdominal pain. Illness usually occurs within 12 to 72 hours after eating contaminated food. In rare cases, the organism can get into the bloodstream resulting in severe illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis.
