Symptoms
Shigella is a bacteria that spreads from person to person. A small amount of bacteria is enough to cause illness. Symptoms start 1 to 2 days after contact and include diarrhea, fever and stomach pain. In rare circumstances, it may lead to reactive arthritis causing joint pain, eye irritation, and painful urination.
