Salmonella Outbreak
Severity
345 people sick and 36 hospitalized across 27 states to date. This update includes 19 meat and poultry products containing jalapeños linked to the outbreak. Affected products were sold at Kroger, H-E-B, Walmart, Albertsons, Hannaford, Wawa, RaceTrac, and other retailers across 24 states. Do not eat, sell, or serve recalled products. Investigation is ongoing.
Who's At Risk?
Salmonella mainly impacts young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Most healthy adults and children rarely become seriously ill after exposure to Salmonella.
Symptoms
Symptoms may include fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (which may be bloody), and abdominal pain. Illness usually occurs within 12 to 72 hours after eating contaminated food. In rare cases, the organism can get into the bloodstream resulting in severe illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis.
